April 2006 Summary

The elders met every Tuesday in April 2006 for their regularly scheduled meetings. Every regular meeting begins with a devotional followed by prayer for specific needs in the body of CCC. Administrative issues requiring frequent monitoring and action are typically the first order of business after the devotion and prayer time. A summary of key issues discussed in April, is found below:

Giving and attendance information

Sunday attendance at CCC averaged 515 + 163 for the month of April 2006. The larger than normal spread was primarily due to attendance on Easter Sunday (4/16) which posted an attendance of 751 people. Giving for the month of April was down slightly. As of 4/23 the giving was 0.7% behind the projected year-to-date budget.

Specific Elder Board business, outside of the routine items mentioned above, which arose during the month of April is summarized below:

  • Rich Carlson was offered an interim pastor position at CCC to preach, teach, and minister to CCC while the senior pastor search process takes place. Rich accepted the position and Rich and wife Marti moved to Idaho Falls in April. Rich will begin preaching the first Sunday in May.
  • The senior pastor search team met several times in April and began their activities. The team worked through an abbreviated senior pastor position description and discussed senior pastor roles/responsibilities. The CCC web page will be updated to contain a senior pastor search team information page. Search team status will be communicated to the CCC body through the Newswire.
  • Kendall Kincaid reported an item of praise related to the “Time to Finish” campaign. As of the end of April 2006 the bond debt has been reduced to $549K. In 2004 when the “Time to Finish” campaign began the bond debt was ~ $1,059K.
  • The elders sought input from the body regarding moving the YouthQuake Café machine. After receiving and discussing valued input from several sources the elders approved the re-location of the Café machine under the provision that funds were available to do so.
  • The elders approved drafting of an “etiquette during worship” statement to be published on a routine basis in the Heartbeat.
  • Dan Gerke proposed the “I Have” communication idea. The advantages and disadvantages of the idea were discussed over several meetings. The elders were unable to come to a consensus regarding implementation of the communication device. Alternatives such as the Ministry Fair were discussed. Rick Lum volunteered to talk to ministry team leaders and coordinate upcoming efforts to provide higher visibility and bottom up communication to ministry teams.
  • A proposal was brought to the elder board by Rick Lum to hire Melanie Wright to do additional cleaning in the CCC Children’s Sunday School rooms. The proposal was approved.
  • Rick Lum reported that the facility care team began the process of upgrading the ballfield behind CCC. The area was rough graded then fine graded using a road grader donated by Rick Gokey.
  • Rick Lum wrote a CCC position paper titled “The Bible is God’s Word”. The position paper was provided to each elder for comments. Comments were received, finalized, and the paper will be published and placed at the Grand Hall information table.

If you have any questions about the elder’s discussions or would like more information, please contact an elder. Contact information for each elder is found in the CCC Directory.
