Elder’s Journal
March 2006 Summary
The elders met three times in March 2006 for their regularly scheduled Tuesday night meetings, and once on 3/19/2006 for a special meeting with Rich Carlson. Every regular elder meeting begins with a devotional followed by prayer for specific needs in the body of CCC. Administrative issues requiring frequent monitoring and action are typically the first order of business after the devotion and prayer time. A summary of key issues of that nature, discussed at the regular meetings held in March, is found below:
- Giving and attendance information
Attendance for the four Sunday’s in March averaged 486 + 64. Weekly giving for the month of March trended approximately -3.7% below the $12.5K/wk baseline established in the 2006 budget. Even though giving for March was down, the overall year-to-date general contributions are approximately +0.8% above the baseline budget needs. CCC was able to meet all of its financial obligations for the February to March period.
- Confirmation of the Sunday Corporate Prayer and Offering Prayer assignments
Assignments through the end of April were made.
Steve and Dee Ann Lucks were recommended and approved for membership.
The China 2006 team acknowledged they had surpassed their fundraising goal of $23.5K.
Dan Gerke reported that recruiting teachers for Sunday Summer school was going well and many people were willing to serve.
News was received from Alan Gunn that Sam and Peggy Petitfil’s house had sold and they were headed to the Los Angeles area where Sam has accepted an Executive Administrative Pastor position.
Specific Elder Board business, outside of the routine items mentioned above, which arose during the month of March is summarized below:
- Brennon Orr motioned for a $500 budget for the remainder of 2006 for the Prayer Team. The motion was approved.
- The Women’s Ministry Team Craft Fair proposal was discussed. The general concept of a fundraiser for designated projects (e.g., China 2006) was supported, but a fundraiser for the general budget was not supported. Details related to the specific Craft Fair proposal required additional clarification and re-work before the elders would approve.
- The College Age Ministry proposal was discussed. Kevin Odette and Ronnie and Selena Harner met with the elders and provided general information about the proposed ministry outreach. The proposal is still under consideration while Kevin and Ronnie provide additional plans and details for the ministry.
- The Kidz Sunday proposal for 2006 was discussed. Kidz Sunday will be scheduled for 4/30 with a mixture of live worship and CD tracks. Children will participate in greeting, passing out the Heartbeat, making coffee, taking the offering, making the announcements, and in other parts of the service. Dan Gerke will be responsible for getting the live worship team together, and Dan will also deliver the message (30 minute). Gene Hansen, elder oversight for the Worship Team, will assist Dan Gerke in planning and coordination of the service.
- The CCC Newswire will now contain a 250 word elder’s meeting summary and a one click link to an edited, more detailed version of the Elder’s Journal.
- Brennon Orr relayed a request from the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) to use CCC as a gathering location (Invasion) and to teach the Contagious Christianity curriculum. Further details and a formal proposal were requested for future discussion of the issue by the elders.
- Input regarding the proposal to move the Youth Quake Café machine was received from several members of the body. The elders will continue to receive input and discuss the issue at a future elder’s meeting.
- Dan Gerke proposed the “I Have” communication idea. Further discussion and a decision was scheduled for a future elder’s meeting.
- The elders chose to reconvene on 4/4/2006 allowing for a rest on Tuesday March 28, 2006.
Special Meetings and Issues
A letter to the body from Vic Pearson/Alan Gunn was released 3/8/06 to communicate the status of the Senior Pastor Search Committee and who will serve on the committee. The letter also provided information related to the March visit by Rich and Marti Carlson.
Rich Carlson accepted an offer on 3/25 to serve as an interim pastor at CCC. Rich and his wife Marti visited CCC March 11 – 20. Rich preached from the pulpit on 3/12 and again on 3/19. Rich and Marti met with the elders, staff, various ministry team leaders, and members of the body during their visit. Two potlucks (3/11 with elders, staff, and spouses; 3/19 with CCC body) were held to provide individuals an opportunity to meet the Carlson’s. Rich attended YQ and sat in on an elder’s meeting.
The elders met with Rich Carlson during a special meeting on 3/19. Rich shared with the elders his observations about what he had learned during his visit to CCC. Rich provided encouragement and exhortation on a range of topics including ministry organization and hierarchy, discipleship, accountability, communication, and intra-church relations.
